I'm Going Organic!
With everything! I realized a few months ago, after switching to organic skin care, that I really wasn’t feeling great. There were several factors involved (not exercising, poor diet, poor sleep, etc.), and I knew something needed to change. I had been feeling so blah for so long that I decided I needed to make a drastic change, one that I would keep up with for the remainder of my life. So I’ve been steadily switching over to organic EVERYTHING.
To be honest, it hasn’t been easy. I live in a small town with less access to organic and natural products than I’m used to, but I’ve been feeling so much better! The first step was the skincare I mentioned (more on that coming soon!), and from there the easiest thing to do was start buying organic groceries. I’ve been doing that as much as I can here, mostly in produce and meat, because organic snack foods really haven’t hit this market yet. I’ve been working my way through my already existing beauty products, like lotion and stuff, because I hate the idea of throwing away unused products. Waste really irks me.
Anyway, food has been the easiest thing to switch, but I also have limited my use of medications and that’s been just as easy. I’ve gone off my birth control (it was making me feel so bloated and lethargic), and I’ve reduced my use of painkillers every month and primarily use essential oils for any type of ache or pain. Now I’m about to switch to Flex menstrual discs (they’re totally different from tampons and menstrual cups) just as soon as I’ve used all the tampons I’ve had stashed in my bathroom. I promise to blog about that experience as well. It should be an interesting endeavor! And then I’m moving on to organic laundry detergent.
Ultimately, my goal is to live in a way that keeps me healthy and doesn’t hurt the environment. It can seem like a lot of work, but I’ve felt so great lately. It makes it entirely worth it. One day, when its time for me to get a new car, I’ll get an electric one. Fingers crossed by then there are some electric SUVs so I can get the pups in there!
This whole process has been a lot of fun. I love that I feel better physically, but it makes me happy to know I’m doing less harm to the whole world and to myself. This is the only home we have, and I personally want to take care of it.
